Darling sent me an article from My Paper (13 July) this morning. The gist of the article is as follows:
“SINGAPOREANS are getting too caught up in the rat race. In the pursuit of economic growth, people are no longer valued as human beings and relationships are declining in importance. As Singaporeans work harder for a living, they are also becoming less tolerant of failure and getting more materialistic. It is time for us to take another look at how values are imparted in schools and homes.Emphasis should be placed on work-life balance, family life and volunteerism.”How true this is as I find it more & more difficult to have a work-life balance, to value family life, & to give my time to volunteerism. After reading this article, I start reflecting on the sermon preach by Dr. A.R.Bernard on Sunday, which is quite rare for me to do so. Haha.
I really love the parable of the good Samaritan mentioned that day. I also love the doctrine of the cultural mandate being adopted by CHC now & in the future. It really aligns to my conviction & that's why I truely believe that this is the place for me, despite being rooted in another church in my beginning 5 years of faith. Christ should be in culture, christ should be working dynamically within this fallen world. We must be the head, & not the tail.
As I re-read the parable of the good samaritan, I realized that there are just so many pharisees in this world, especially those in church. Like what A.R. Bernard said, many leaders in commercial organizations & religious organizations just love to hold summit & discuss about current problems in the world through day & night. After that, they would set up all types of red tapes, rules & regulations to make it so difficult to solve the problem. What an ironical???
As believers, if we really love god, we should also love people & do something about people's condition, & not just sit & talk & show empathy through words of mouth only.
Sometimes, I wonder: those people earning lots of money, & already living a very comfortable life, why are they still yearning for more high-end products & not doing anything about the current situation in this world? Why? When they are already so filthy-rich? Why? Why are they immune to those less fortunate people in this world? Why? Maybe, one day, if I really become filthy-rich like them, would I do something more to help those less fortunate people in this world? I know I will, if I still have god's love in my heart.
