Living a meaningful and fulfilling life

We live life only but once. So in whatever things we do, listen to god's will, follow our heart, and do not be afraid to chase our dreams..........Amen........

2nd fllight on SQ

I got to take SQ for the 2nd time in my life after so many years of taking budget airline. It was quite an entertaining experience as I got to watch 8 movies for the flight to & fro. Although it was a 10 hours flight, time just slipped past unknowingly as I was totally engrossed in the movie, transporting myself to another world although my physical self was stuck in that little cabin in the air.

I was particularly entertained by 2 musical movies "Mama Mia" & "Hairspray". The songs of ABBA in "Mama Mia" are really undying legend which will continue to be sung by many in the infinite future. The groovy retro songs featured in "Hairspray" also brought me back to Baltimore in the good old days whereby rock & roll rules.

But for the flight back to Singapore, I watch another 2 korean movies which are of very different theme from the 2 entertaining musicals above. They are about love & freedom amidst war upheaval & political reality. The 1st movie was "Crossing". It depicts the reality of life in the enclosed country North Korea, whereby lies, leader idolatry, propaganda has brought hardship & suffering to the innocent civilians in the whole country. It was a really heavy-laden movie & I cried non-stop from the moment Yong-soo's wife died to the end whereby his son died too. But it was a relief for those who died as they had gone to heaven, a place better than NK - hell on earth.
The 2nd movie was "Sunny". It was apparently quite a new movie although I have not heard about it before. The lead actress won quite a few awards in korea for her role as "Sunny" in the movie. This movie is about a young wife who joins a band so as to go to vietnam to look for her husband who abandons her by enlisting into the Vietnam war as he doesn't love her. She wants to show that she is capable of loving him & uses her vocal talent to join a band heading there and sings for the restless soldiers in hopes of meeting her husband while on tour. The ending was quite touching as the husband finally realizes what love is through the sacrifices the young wife made for him in order to bring him back. I sobbed during the scenes whereby the band leader realizes that money is not that important anymore & they burnt all the money they had earned through Sunny. As war came so close to you, one realizes that living & loving are what a man's life is about afterall.
